Dubai’s Crown Prince, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammad Al Maktoum recently snapped a few impressive pictures and videos of his life high above the clouds. Sipping a cup of coffee and walking in an open roof that made him look like he was actually walking on clouds, the Prince showed his 4.4 million Instagram followers how he wakes up every morning.
Captioned, “a world of opportunities lie beneath. #MyDubai”, the picture and footage show the world’s tallest skyscrapers and buildings seemingly floating above the clouds, while the sun rises peacefully in the background. It’s a breathtaking and dizzying sight, but the prince looks comfortably at home.
According to eTurbo News, the hashtag #MyDubai was created by the Prince via Instagram and Twitter with the intention of creating “the world’s first autobiography of a city”. The initiative, supported by the city’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) encourages visitors and residents alike to share compelling and memorable moments using the hashtag.
One of the buildings seen in the Prince’s footage is the Burj Khalifa, the tallest structure ever built at 2,716 feet and over 160 floors. The building took 5 years to complete and the cost of the construction said to have been over $1.5 billion dollars.
The type of cloud coverage seen in the video is a pretty rare occurrence. It only takes place about twice a year during the sunrise, when the weather is changing from warm to cold and vice versa. According to 9News, the last time clouds reached this kind of density was in March.
The Prince is an avid user of Instagram, where he calls himself Fazza. Previously he made headlines when he rode the London Underground with His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai. The two were dressed down discreetly and took selfies with the commuters around them, sharing across all of their social media platforms.
Dubai is one of the world’s most lavish and extravagant cities in the world in spite of the adversities the region faces. The city is located in the middle of a barren desert, with constant sandstorms and intense temperatures averaging at 120 F/50 C, but it’s flourished to be one of the jewels of the Middle East.
