Elon Musk Shuts Down Flat Earth Conspiracy Theories With 7 Words

Space X and Tesla founder Elon Musk recently shut down Flat Earth conspiracy theories with one very good question.

It’s a sign of the times that the belief that the earth is flat is growing in popularity. With the proliferation of fake news and prominent public figures questioning scientific fact, movements like the Flat Earth Society are finding a following.

Scientific fact does little to dissuade the people who believe in these bizarre and unfounded theories.

And when high profile public figures and celebrities lend their support to these ignorant and ancient notions, it serves to legitimize them.

To help combat the growing ignorance, popular astrophysicist and host of the television show ‘Cosmos’ and podcast ‘StarTalk Radio’ Neil deGrasse Tyson has publicly engaged with prominent figures who encourage their social media followers to question the roundness of the earth.

And now Neil has some support, as Elon Musk asked a question I’d love to hear a Flat Earth Society member try to answer.

When the Curiosity rover sent back to NASA a shot the sun setting on Mars, Elon Musk seized the opportunity to take a shot at those who believe in a flat earth.

Musk tweeted: “Mars sky is the opposite of Earth / Blue sunrise and sunset / Red during the day”

Following up that tweet with: “Why is there no Flat Mars Society?”

It’s a really good question. If the Earth is flat, shouldn’t other planets be flat as well?

The official Twitter account of the Flat Earth Society responded with this: “Hi Elon, thanks for the question. Unlike the Earth, Mars has been observed to be round.”

Isn’t that funny? What about all the observations of the Earth by NASA that show the roundness of our planet? You know what, never mind.

There really is no rationalizing with these people.
