People Just Figured Out Where They Know ‘The Good Doctor’ From And They’re Freaking Out

Anyone who has been keeping up or watching the latest hit TV series The Good Doctor can tell you that the leading actor behind the role of Shaun Murphy is a talented one. Freddie Highmore has been in the industry for quite some time now, but many people are scratching their heads wondering where exactly they had seen him before The Good Doctor.

Freddie Highmore was born in Camden Town in London, England, and according to his IMDB profile, he is the son of talent agent Sue Latimer and Edward Thomas Highmore, who is an actor. The child of two talented people would actually get his start the industry at a very young age. When Twitter users noticed they had seen Freddie Highmore somewhere before, it was when they were watching a notable children’s movie starring alongside Johnny Depp, titled Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Highmore played the title role of Charlie Bucket, which surprised quite a few people. Twitter user Amber Alexander (@AmberAWX) wrote, “Started watching Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because why not? I saw @freddiehighmore’s name in the opening credits and put two and two together. #mindblown” Another Twitter user, Kaylee Cronan (@kaydc11) wrote, “Just in case I wasn’t the only one unaware, Freddie Highmore is not only Norman Bates and Dr. Shaun Murphy but also is Charlie Bucket from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.”

This isn’t the only time Freddie Highmore starred alongside Johnny Depp. He was also in the feature film Finding Neverland, where he played Peter Llewelyn Davies, the son of the character Sylvia Llewelyn Davies, who was the love interest of Depp’s character J.M. Barrie, author of the story Peter Pan. Although he had previous roles in films, and various miniseries, it was his role in Finding Neverland that really put Freddie Highmore on the map.

Freddie Highmore landed the role of Charlie Bucket shortly after, but Highmore also appeared in many other films in his childhood, including The Spiderwick Chronicles, August Rush, and a voice acting role in The Golden Compass. Highmore also had notable voice acting roles in the Arthur And The Great Adventure and its two subsequent sequels.

Another notable role of Freddie Highmore’s was in playing the infamous character of Norman Bates in the series Bates Motel, based on Alfred Hitchcock’s famous thriller Psycho. Highmore’s portrayal of the troubled boy under the care of his equally troubled mother showed off Highmore’s versatility as an actor.

Now, Highmore is playing Dr. Shaun Murphy on The Good Doctor, a man with autism and savant syndrome who works as a resident surgeon. Highmore was nominated for a Golden Globe for his portrayal of a man with autism. The show is centered on how Dr. Murphy’s savant syndrome allows him to see the solutions to problems or challenges that arise in the hospital where other skilled professionals might not otherwise notice right away. The show has become an inspiration to people who have autism who often feel underrepresented in the mainstream media. The finale to the first season will happen by the end of March, however, fans of the show need not be sad for it has officially been announced that The Good Doctor has been renewed for a second season.
