More than a week ago, the UN Security Council voted to increase the number of sanctions against North Korea after they performed their sixth and largest nuclear test. Since Donald Trump stepped into the position of President, the back and forth between Trump and Kim Jong-Un has only intensified.
With more nuclear ballistic tests on the way, it is not clear how this war of words will play out.
But after a speech from the foreign minister of North Korea, it seems like these words could escalate into nuclear actions.
During a speech at the United Nations General Assembly in September, President Trump said that the United States would ‘totally destroy North Korea’ if it was forced to defend itself or its allies.
But since that speech, the foreign minister of North Korea has said: ‘with his bellicose and insane statement at the United Nations, Trump, you can say, has lit the wick of a war against us.’
The foreign minister, Ri Yong Ho, finished off by saying: ‘we need to settle the final score, only with a hail of fire, not words.’
President Trump later insulted the leader of North Korea by calling Kim Jong-Un ‘rocket man’ while Mr. Ri has previously called Donald Trump ‘President Evil.’
A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry in North Korea said that the more sanctions that are imposed on North Korea the faster it will develop its nuclear weapons program.
Mr. Ri continued on by saying: ‘we have almost reached the last point on the journey towards our final goal – to achieve a real balance of power with the United States.’
‘Our principal position is that we will never agree to any talks in which our nuclear weapons will be the subject of negotiations.’
However, Defence Secretary, James Mattis, said that a peaceful resolution is still their goal but he has informed the US army ‘to be ready’ should military action be needed.
