Dramatic irony is often used as a device in movies and literature, but it can play out in real life as well. Merriam-Webster defines irony as “incongruity between the actual result of a sequence of events and the normal or expected result.” The result can be less than favorable, of course, but it can also be quite hilarious. 1. Sorry China, but I only buy American made American Freedom. Unless you guys sell it for cheaper, of course. This picture is ironic because “American Freedom” should probably come from America, not China. There’s also a joke about the insane amount of debt America owes China in there too.
2. What better way to celebrate Earth Day than to litter the streets with, well, litter. This picture is ironic because these people, during an Earth Day walk, ended up creating more litter than the street probably would have had on any other day. Maybe there were special Earth Day street sweepers?
