Was there actually a time when we hadn’t heard about the Kardashian family? The Kardashian name has become a money-making phenomenon. The family has managed to do the unthinkable and actually profit off of the small bit of fame that started with their reality TV show Keeping Up With The Kardashians. People couldn’t get enough of the reality stars and many wished they had their own Kardashian family. Now it’s hard to look at social media or entertainment news and not hear about at least one famous family member.
From their style to the way they talk, the Kardashian family has made their mark in pop culture—there’s no denying it. Each family member has become famous in their own right, whether for good reasons (like Kylie becoming a makeup mogul) or bad ones (everything related to Rob and Blac Chyna).
But one thing is for sure; people cannot get enough of the Kardashian family. It’s hard to imagine a time when they were a normal family like everyone else, but that time did exist. Thanks to a ton of throwbacks, we have an idea of what it was like to be a Kardashian before the name became a sensation. Brace yourselves; there’s a lot of cuteness and a multitude of funky outfits.
1. Let’s start from the beginning. Here’s a throwback of the Kardashian sisters’ grandmother and Kris Jenner’s mother, MJ, sporting an awesome hairstyle and some retro hoops. Not to mention Momager Kris Jenner in her teens showing a striking resemblance to her fourth daughter, Kendall Jenner.
Instagram2. The Kardashians love their throwbacks, and their father is usually front and center in many of them. Even though they lost their father when they were relatively young, it’s obvious they shared a close bond that still carries on today.
Instagram3. Kris Jenner was quite the babe. There’s no denying that Kris passed on some good genes to her six children. She also seems to have passed on her sense of style – I mean, look at that wedding dress! And that hat! Momager was stylish from day one.
instagram4. Kim and Kourtney probably post the most throwbacks of the bunch. Here are the two sisters with their mom and dad looking as cute as ever.
Instagram5. Kourtney also likes to share her own cute throwbacks. Here’s one with mom Kris Jenner wearing matching pink overalls (the matching outfits are a recurring theme).
Instagram6. Here Kim pays an emotional tribute to her late father for his birthday, sharing this adorable picture of her and Kourtney posing with dad Robert Kardashian. Also, can those lunchboxes come back in style?
Instagram7. Kim and Kourtney both talk about how often they were stuck in matching clothing. In this photo, they’re actually wearing different dresses, but in the caption, Kim mentions that she was still seen as the “annoying younger sister who copied everything she [Kourtney] did!”
Instagram8. The matching outfits aren’t over after all. Here are Kourtney and Kim looking like twins once again in cute dresses and matching bows in their hair.
Instagram9. It was much harder to find a throwback picture of Khloe Kardashian. She wasn’t kidding when she made her mom take that paternity test on KUWTK; she looks completely different from her sisters.
Instagram10. Here’s an adorable picture of Robert, Kris, Kim, Kourtney, Khloe and little Rob on mom’s lap. What a sweet family photo.
Instagram11. Even mom Kris Jenner wanted in on the throwback action, posting her own from 1997 and proving she hasn’t aged a bit! Aside from Kendall’s hilarious face in the bottom left corner (looks like she didn’t have those model poses down just yet) it’s Kim’s eyebrows we can’t stop looking at!
Instagram12. Even Kendall Jenner shared a thoughtful tribute to Robert Kardashian, wishing him a happy birthday with this sweet photo of her and Kylie on his lap.
Instagram13. Can’t forget about her biological father, Caitlyn Jenner. Here’s Kendall as a baby sharing a fun day on the beach with her dad.
Instagram14. She also shared a similar picture with her mom, Kris Jenner, while she was pregnant with Kylie. The calm before the Stormi.
Instagram15. Although it seems like we’ve watched Kendall and Kylie grow up on their reality TV show, there was a time before the show when they were just regular kids, and Kim – gasp – wasn’t famous.
Instagram16. Kendall Jenner also shared this hilarious before-they-were-famous photo of her and Kylie sleeping in some laundry baskets. Can you imagine them sleeping in something like that now?
Instagram17. Kylie has also submitted her fair share of throwback photos – it almost feels like this family knew they were going to be famous someday and took plenty of “before” pictures. Here’s one with older sister Kendall Jenner as adorable ballerinas.
Instagram18. Looks like the Jenner sisters weren’t exempt from the matching outfits either… or in this case, matching Adidas tracksuits.
Instagram19. Ah, the terrible going-through-puberty pictures have arrived. Here’s one of Kourtney, Kim, and Rob in their early years. The worst part is they don’t even look bad.
Instagram20. Yup, another disappointing ‘awkward teens’ photo of Kim and Kourtney in the ‘90s looking not awkward at all.
Instagram21. Kendall Jenner shared this throwback as a birthday tribute to her older brother Rob… but can we talk about Kourtney’s bangs?!
Instagram22. Here’s a gem. This is right around the time the Kardashian family was about to make it big, but wayyy before their fashion and style sense had kicked in.
Instagram23. Now for my favorite picture of all: a wanna-be-famous Kourtney and Kim Kardashian partying at a club with the best person to get noticed with at the time – none other than Paris Hilton herself.
Instagram24. And last but not least, Kim Kardashian on her way to making it big. She shared this photo of her in a tiara at the first club she ever hosted in 2007. I love that she dressed like a princess because you know that’s exactly how she saw herself. Lucky for the rest of the Kardashian family, Kim was determined to make it big… and she certainly did.
