It all started five years ago with the slightly controversial reality television show, Toddlers and Tiaras. That was the birth (not the actual birth) of Alana Thompson to the television world. From that show, producers and executives created a spinoff called Here Comes Honey Boo Boo where viewers got a deep dive into the lives of the Thompson family. Now Honey Boo Boo’s mom, Mama June, has entered the spotlight once again after losing hundreds of pounds and then posing in lingerie.
Here Comes Honey Boo Boo came to an abrupt halt after rumors surfaced that ‘Mama June’ was dating a registered sex offender.
Now, more than four years after the show’s cancellation, ‘Mama June’ Shannon has created a startling new image for herself.
And in a roundabout kind of a way, Mama June now has her own reality television show called ‘Mama June: From Not To Hot.’
At her heaviest, Mama June weighed as much as 460 pounds. Despite her very public weight loss journey, she was able to get down to 352 pounds at the beginning of her show.
PeopleDespite losing more than a 100 pounds, Mama June acknowledges the fact that she still has a long way to go.
In an interview, she said: ‘it’s a daily struggle. I’ve had the gastric sleeve. I’ve had the skin removal surgery. But who would think, ‘Oh, that’s just a fix,’ you know what I’m saying?’
A sleeve gastrectomy is an operation in which the stomach is shrunk to about 15 percent of its original size so that the person will feel a lot fuller even though they are eating a lot less.
She also underwent a breast augmentation surgery as well as skin removal to get rid of the loose skin that exists after a drastic weight loss.
Mama June continued: ‘trust me, it’s work. You have to work [to] put the work into it, because if you don’t, there’s no sense in spending the money and having the stuff done.’
Since her impressive weight loss, Mama June has done numerous photo shoots including ones in lingerie.
On the next season of Mama June’s TV show, she is expected to follow in her daughter’s footsteps and participate in a beauty pageant herself.
In a short snippet of the upcoming season, Honey Boo Boo can be seen talking to Mama June: ‘if you love me, you’ll do this pageant. You thought coach Mama June was rough? Wait until you meet coach Alana.’
Mama June could be seen second guessing that idea. She said: ‘I’ve been always on the other side of the pageant world. I don’t have any talent.’
Despite her belief that she lacks ‘talent’ Mama June has not been afraid to model and pose in a wide variety of outfits and even lingerie. Expect Mama June to show off more of her transformation in the upcoming second season of Mama June: From Not To Hot.
