The horrific act conducted by Stephen Paddock on the country music festival in Las Vegas left at least 58 people dead and many more injured and still recovering. This shooting is considered to be the worst mass shooting in modern United States history. Paddock worked, for a time, as an IRS agent and then began to invest in real estate. There is no clear indication of the initial source of his wealth but he slowly became a regular at casinos and would gamble up to a million dollars a night.

However, among the 22,000 concertgoers that night, many were able to flee and run for safety.

And that is precisely what a couple from California did.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Dennis and Lorraine Carver were attending the country music festival when they heard the gunshots go off.
