In the world of Hollywood romance, it has been tough to find a relationship that has truly lasted. Many power couples have come and gone, with very few sticking together through the obstacles of celebrity life. One couple, however, has instilled hope and faith in all of us when it comes to lasting love. Will and Jada Pinkett Smith recently celebrated a milestone in their lives, and it was followed by powerful words that may bring tears of joy.

Will Smith’s 20th-anniversary message to Jada Pinkett-Smith was shared on the worldwide popular Instagram, which he recently joined. He used the booming platform to pen his thoughts on their special day, which left fans certainly emotional. Tying the knot back in 1997, they have now been together for an impressive two decades. Let’s take a brief look back at how the power couple made it to this glorious day.
Having first met in 1995, the two met when Jada had auditioned for the role of Will’s girlfriend on The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. Although she didn’t get the part due to her height, they remained in contact and began seeing each other. They started off as friends initially, and a couple of years later, she had noticed the “lanky kid” she once knew, grow into a “really responsible man”. They began to show romantic interest in one another, and ultimately became a couple at last.
Their first date was far from typical, heading all the way to Mexico. Jada admitted that it took her two years to even laugh at something Will said, so she was quite the tough customer. That proved to be no issue at all, as the couple tied the knot just two years later before welcoming their two children, Jaden and Willow. There was speculation about divorce in their later years, however, the couple never remained apart for long, and overcame any issues that may have surfaced between them. They now are 20 years strong, and what Will wrote to Jada certainly encapsulates the strong love they share.
On their special anniversary, Will posted a photo of himself and Jada from their wedding day, 20 years ago, along with the caption “20 Years Ago Today we held hands and walked naively down that aisle”. He then began to illustrate his love for Jada. “Love is like gardening”, he began. “I have learned to focus on HELPING you to BLOSSOM into what YOU want to be (into what you were born to be)…Rather than demanding that you become what my fragile ego needs you to be”.
He then continued with “I’ve learned to take pleasure in nourishing YOUR dreams. Rather than wrestling with you to fulfill my selfish needs and satiate my insecurities.” Will expressed his selfless approach to marriage, and how important it is to value your partner’s dreams and to recognize them and all their potential. When it comes to what he’s learned from their love, Will stated “I have learned that love is listening. Love is giving. Love is freedom.”
In a very poetic approach to an anniversary message, Will captured Jada’s heart and many people’s attention worldwide, inspiring hopeless romantics to believe in love, and proving that it can last with a little bit of work. The two have overcome and endured bumps on the road together, but have come out stronger than ever. The expression of cultivating your partner and learning through your love is a beautiful thing and something that people can try to apply to their own relations.
