A tragedy occurred on board a Miami cruise ship this month when Zion Smith, an 8-year-old girl, fell several stories down on the ship’s inner deck. Paramedics who arrived on the scene attempted to revive the girl, but she, unfortunately, passed away from her injuries.
Carnival Cruises is one of the world’s leading cruise lines, with trips to the Bahamas, Bermuda, Cuba, Europe and many more destinations around the world. There are still many questions as to what led to the little girl’s death.
The tragedy occurred after a week-long family vacation on board the cruise ship named Carnival Glory. The guardians of the girl and her family told reporters that they believed impatient passengers eager to leave the ship may have led to their daughter Zion’s death.
The girl was transferred to a Miami area hospital in severely critical condition, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The scene was described as chaotic and tragic, as emergency crews attempted to revive the girl after falling 20 feet from the balcony railing. Investigators are looking into the lack of safety surrounding an elevator area, where it is believed customers rushing from the elevator may have inadvertently bumped the little girl, where she fell to her death.
Ignatius Carroll, the Miami Fire Rescue Captain told reporters that emergency crews responded quickly, and attempted to perform CPR on the child. She was airlifted to the Jackson Memorial Hospital, Ryder Trauma Centre, where she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries.
Carnival Cruises issued an official statement in the aftermath of this tragedy, saying “Our most heartfelt condolences are with the family at this very difficult time.”
There is no official word yet on the cause of the accident, only that Carnival Glory cruise passengers were in a rush to leave the ship after their week-long voyage. Zion Smith (8) is mourned by her family and friends.
