Meghan Markle And Kate Middleton Both Wore Blue Dresses To The Same Event—But Markle’s Cost $1,600 More Than Middleton’s

It’s pretty clear at this point that Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle have a fairly similar sense of style. Maybe it’s what you do when you become royalty. But they definitely have a similar taste. This was pretty clear at the inaugural Royal Foundation Forum that took place in London.

The two shared a similar sense of style that day, both wearing blue dresses during their first ever official royal engagement together. However, though the dresses they wore looked pretty similar, the prices were very different. This price difference essentially reflects the difference in approaches to fashion.

Kate Middleton wore a Royal Blue Tailored Maternity Dress by Seraphine. The dress retails for $169. It’s been reported that Middleton has a tendency to go for the more accessible and affordable options. This naturally makes her more relatable to the public.

On top of this, Kate also wears her outfits more than once. She has no problem being seen wearing a dress on more than one occasion. A lot of us “normal” people can totally relate to that.

Meghan Markle, on the other hand, decided to go for a more glamorous design for her dress choice at the event. She went for a dark blue wrap dress by Jason Wu.

The dress retails for $1,795. This is more than ten times the price of Middleton’s outfit. Even though it’s way more expensive, it’s been reported that the Duchess has been known to wear similarly priced ensembles for more formal functions.

But the price difference in the two dresses reflects the background differences between the two ladies. Markle comes from a Hollywood, acting background. That means that she’s used to dressing in high-end designer outfits.

You’re probably wondering when was the other time that Markle wore a more expensive dress than her future sister-in-law. Well, back in December 2017, Markle wore a semi-sheer dress by Ralph & Russo that apparently cost $75,000, according to reports.

She wore this dress for her engagement photo shoot with Prince Harry. However, for Middleton’s engagement photo shoot back in 2010, Kate went with a way more affordable dress, wearing a $310 ruffled design by British retailer Reiss.

The difference between Markle and Middleton goes beyond fashion. Markle has proven to be a bit more outspoken when it comes to political issues. Middleton likes to keep more to herself when it comes to speaking out on social issues.

During the Royal Foundation event, Markle gave her thoughts on the Time’s Up movement. “I think right now, in the climate that we’re seeing with so many campaigns — I mean with ‘Me Too’ and ‘Times Up,’ there is no better time to really continue to shine a light on women feeling empowered and people really helping to support them, men included in that,” Markle said. “Women don’t need to find a voice. They have a voice. They need to feel empowered to use it, and people need to be encouraged to listen.”
