‘The Sandlot’ Cast Reunites On TODAY — See The Gang 25 Years Later

If anyone is a fan of the 1993 coming-of-age baseball film ‘The Sandlot’ I have good news for you. The gang is back together after 25 years to toss the ball around one last time!

Any 90s kid who was a fan of the classic baseball movie will remember the names Smalls, Ham, Squints, DeNunez, Yeah-Yeah, Timmy, Bertram and Repeat.

Well, they’re back together once again, telling TODAY what life is like for them now, 25 years after the film was released. “It’s been crazy,” Marty York, aka Yeah-Yeah, told TODAY. “I mean, it definitely gets you in places for free. I can’t walk through a Las Vegas casino without someone yelling ‘Yeah-Yeah!”

The gang also took time to sit down and reminisce about what it was like making the film all those years ago.

‘The film was made with the same amount of love that people have for it, and it was the greatest summer of our lives,’ shared the director, writer, and narrator of ‘The Sandlot,’ David Mickey Evans. It’s obvious the boys still have a lot of love for the film; when asked by the Hollywood Reporter in another interview whether or not they would be interested in making a sequel, the cast agreed with Shane Obedzinski (Repeat) when he said, ‘Let’s do it!’

The cast said they recognize the legacy of the movie has carried on well beyond what they could have hoped for. Tom Guiry, who played Scotty Smalls, told TODAY: ‘It made a big impact on a lot of people’s lives.’ The New York Yankees even paid tribute to the film back in 2015 when they recreated one of its scenes. The gang says they saw the video and Marty York admitted, ‘I think it’s awesome.’

However, it looks like the love for the movie, and the sport hasn’t been passed down to their own children: ‘I showed [my son] the movie for the first time, and… well, he’s really big on ‘Moana,” Patrick Renna, who played Ham in the film, confessed. Chauncey Leopardi, also known as Squints, is in the same boat, admitting his own teen daughter “thinks I’m just kind of a dork.”
