Matt LeBlanc Explains Why He Doesn’t Want A Friends Reunion

For a while now, it’s either been team Seinfeld or team Friends. But regardless what team you were on, everyone wants a return of their favorite sitcom. When it comes to Friends, fans have been fairly vocal about wanting a reunion.

I’m definitely one hardcore fan who would probably get emotional if there was a Friends reunion. Regardless of the storyline, just seeing Rachel, Ross, Joey, Chandler, Monica, and Phoebe back together would give me all kinds of feels…and I’m sure I’m not alone on that one.

But there is one person who isn’t so keen on the idea of a reunion…and that’s Joey himself. Well, it’s actually Matt Le Blanc, but basically Joey. In fact, the actor thinks it would be a huge epic fail if the show were to come back and fans wouldn’t be interested in it…at all.

According to metro.co.uk, the 50-year-old actor completely dismissed suggestions based on the fact that he believes that the characters are just too old now to return. Their problems back then just wouldn’t be as funny now.

Le Blanc spoke about the speculations to Brisbane radio station 97.3FM, saying “I don’t think anybody wants to see Joey at his colonoscopy!” But, he totally understands why fans want to see their loved characters back.

He continued, telling the radio station, “I understand that people really want to see that reunion. But the show was about a finite period in these six characters lives, between 20 and 30”. I mean he does have a good point…I guess.

Matt also brought up another good point. He told the radio station, “I think everyone’s imagination of what they (the characters) are doing is better. It’s not any one person. I think it’s better to just leave it.”

Matt, who now presents BBC Two’s Top Gear, noted that “I think it’s almost a case of, like, the book is better than the movie”. You know what, Matt? You just might have a good point. Maybe it is better for fans to just imagine how good a reunion would be, rather than shattering their dreams.

According to reports, Matt went on in saying that he’s not the only cast member who’s reluctant to bring the show back. But he’s pretty confident that a reunion would be a total epic fail. He told the radio station, “It’s not any one person. I think it’s better to just leave it”.

Now that I think about it, it would be strange to see an older Ross being not only bossy with Rachel but also his teenage daughter Emma. Or can you picture Phoebe being much older but still being the same old weird Phoebs we love? I don’t think I can! Metro.co.uk notes that even though Matt is a host now on Top Gear, he still considers himself to be an actor rather than a presenter.

Maybe keeping it in the 90’s might be a better idea. Jennifer Aniston was also asked about a reunion in an interview with ITV’s Lorraine last year. She noted, “I don’t know what we would do? I think that period of time was sort of nostalgic, you know, there’s something about a time—and I think that’s why people have such an affection for it…”
