Purchasing online can be very risky. I mean, you see a product you want looking one way online, and then when it arrives at your home it looks COMPLETELY different. Sometimes, the color just might be off…but that can be a huge deal for some people. Meet Marie Stent.
You see, Marie had purchased a lovely toilet from Ikea and was pretty proud of her purchase. It had everything going for what a toilet should have: COMFORTABLE. From what Marie saw, the toilet was the perfect color: the classic go-to toilet seat color…white.
So you can imagine how livid Marie was when she finally unraveled the toilet just to find out that it wasn’t white at all. Worst part? She had already thrown out the receipt. Now, there are some of us who aren’t ones to complain if the color isn’t what we thought it would be. But not Marie.
Clearly, Marie was not a fan of a blue toilet. But this story isn’t so black and white. In fact, it wasn’t until Marie’s daughter, Amber, took a look at it that she realized that the seat was a double agent.
Yepp, it’s pretty important to read instructions when a package comes! Once Amber read the instructions and realized what the blue actually was, she posted on Twitter.
Amber explained that the seat was actually white but it was covered in a blue protective film. Marie clearly missed that.
Amber is a law student in the UK and posted on her social media telling the story. The mixup got pretty popular in the twitter world. It received over 32,000 retweets and a ton of social media users wrote that they had experienced a similar situation.
Amber posted a few photos of the toilet on her Twitter. She wrote, “Mom bought a 40 pound toilet seat from Ikea, gets home and starts freaking out because it’s bright blue and she’s chucked away the receipt.” You can tell by the wording that they are from the United Kingdom.
She continued, writing, “After about 30 minutes of accepting it, she’s finally got her head around the idea of having a blue toilet, until I come and read the label”. After seeing how many responses this tweet had gotten and how many people related to it, Amber responded to the tweets, writing: “Who knew a tweet about a toilet seat would be so poppin”.
Just to think that if only Marie from St Neots in Cambridgeshire took a few moments to just look at the seat’s diagram, she would’ve saved herself the 30 minutes of anger. I guess just the sight of the blue already set her off. Mind you, it would’ve only taken a few seconds to tear the blue off.
People’s relatable stories were hilarious. One person tweeted, “My mother-in-law once did this one purpose with a dishwasher: she left the blue protective film on the front of it for a year before we convinced her to finally remove it”.
