The MMA superstar has established himself as one of the more raw and uncut figures in the growing sport, with a series of rash statements and incidents that he’s ignited. This time around, it wasn’t him who caused the stir. British R&B artist Rita Ora showed up on the red carpet of the British Fashion Awards this week, bumping into Conor McGregor, and like most fans do, shared pictures of and with him via social media. Adding more spice to the pot, Rita captioned the shared photos ‘Date night’ tagging McGregor, and giving a cheeky wink while seductively biting her lip. Instead of adding fuel to the fire, McGregor’s long time wife decided to take on a more conservative approach.
Dee Devlin, who’s been with Conor since 2008, knows better than to give airtime to rumours, and quickly dismissed any insinuations with an adorable post of their son, Conor Jack McGregor Junior. Taking on a different route than other spouses may have, she decided to act with class, and focus on what’s more important in life.
Naturally, people turned to social media to express their views on this, suggesting Rita is a ‘homewrecker’ and should have ‘more respect’. Though thousands of people decided to bash the singer, his SBG teammate and sparring partner, Artem Lobov, also got involved stating ‘Sorry Rita, Burgers are nice but not when a man has a steak at home’
Dee, the 30-year-old fellow Irish woman who’s been involved with Conor since before he even began his illustrious MMA career, knows the devoted man she shares a home and family with. Dismissing any speculation, she reminded the social media world, in all subtlety, of the child they share and love, and the unbreakable love they have.
Although this could’ve easily been blown out of proportion, and led to further speculative rubbish, the class by McGregor’s wife was all that would be needed to cease the flames. Rita certainly threw the bait into the rumor pool, but it would be short lived despite any buzz that it created.
Whether this was all in good fun and just a social involvement, it could be argued that Conor himself should as well know better, though such an incident doesn’t tamper with the image of a devoted man that the media and his family already have come to know him as. Kudos to his wife who was a prime example of how things like this should be addressed and squashed.
