Kevin Rojas was only 19 years old when he fired four shots at an undercover police officer. Now, more than two years later, he is sentenced to life in prison. Authorities state that Kevin Rojas, now 21 years old, fled a fight with his girlfriend back in 2016. When an unnamed undercover police officer saw him driving erratically on the road, he was pulled over.
That’s when Kevin stepped out of his vehicle and fired four shots at the undercover police officer who was with his young son at the time.
Luckily, his son was not shot but the police officer was struck. When he tried to return fire, Kevin fled the scene, stole a truck, and tried to hole up in his own home.
In October, a jury found him guilty of attempted first-degree murder, attempted manslaughter, two counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, grand theft auto, and fleeing.
The officer is not being named in order to protect his undercover status.
But it was in court during Kevin’s sentencing when the officer taunted the 21-year-old with a tube of K-Y Jelly.
In court, the officer said: ‘when you shot me, even though you shot me 4 times, when I returned fire and brought the fight back [to] you, [you] started to run like a coward. That’s all you did, run like a coward.’
‘So I got a little gift for you, you’re going to need a lot of this where you are going.’ And that’s when the officer showed Kevin the tube of lubricant.
Kevin fired four shots through the windshield of the officer’s car, three of which struck him, one in the face.
Kevin, who looked smug throughout the hearing, did not speak during the sentencing and his family left the courtroom in tears.
During an interview with News 4 Jax, the officer said: ‘it will never be the same. It only took for me to look away for one second and he was already on top of me trying to kill me.’
