New Footage Of Matt Lauer Whispering Disturbing Comments To Female ‘Today’ Employee

Matt Lauer was fired from NBC on Wednesday after sexual harassment allegations were filed against him in connection with inappropriate behaviour during the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Recently, footage has surfaced showing Lauer making a lewd remark to a female coworker on the ‘Today’ show. Many media outlets have identified the woman as his former co-host Katie Couric.

The video, which was obtained and released by TMZ, featured the cast along with Lauer taking a commercial break. In the video, Lauer states, “Pretty sweater…Keep bending over like that. It’s a nice view.” It’s unclear whether the woman to who the comment was directed replied. However, if she did, the response wasn’t audible on the tape. TMZ disclosed that the video was from October 2006.

In addition to this video, TMZ also unearthed a clip of Couric as a guest on Andy Cohen’s “What Happens Live.” Couric was asked what habit of Lauer’s is the most annoying, to which she responded, “He pinches me on the** a lot.”

In late November, the staff of ‘Today’ all received a memo sent by NBC Chairman Andy Lack that stated, “On Monday night, we received a detailed complaint from a colleague about inappropriate sexual behaviour in the workplace by Matt Lauer. It represented, after serious review, a clear violation of our company’s standards. As a result, we’ve decided to terminate his employment.”

Other incidents of Lauer’s inappropriate behaviour include gifting a sex toy to a colleague with instructions on how we wanted her to use it and exposing himself to a female employee after calling her into his office.

In November, The New York Times reported that two more women have come forth with allegations against Lauer, including one who stated that Lauer coerced her into having sex with him.

Ari Wilkenfeld is the lawyer representing the woman whose complaint resulted in Lauer being fired. He did not identify his client, but he did say the impression that they both had is that NBC acted quickly “as all companies should, when confronted with credible allegations of sexual misconduct in the workplace.”

He also added, “While I am encouraged by NBC’s response to date, I am in awe of the courage my client showed to be the first to raise a complaint and to do so without making any demands other than the company do the right thing.”
