Prince William Comments On Prince George’s First Day At School And Jokes He Was Lucky To Avoid A Temper Tantrum

Prince George started his first day of school at Thomas’s Battersea on Thursday, September 7. He was accompanied by his father, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. As any child starting their first day of school, George looked a little nervous but being hand-in-hand with William calmed his nerves until he was greeted by the Head of Lower School, Helen Derbyshire.

According to their website, Thomas’s Battersea there are seven stages of learning that compromise the Early Years Foundation Stage. Several of the stages are dedicated to literacy, math, expressive arts and design, and understanding the world.

Before heading off to school, George’s grandfather, Charles, Prince of Wales, told ITV that he didn’t have any advice for the youngster. In an interview, he told Royal editor Chris Ship of ITV News that George probably wouldn’t have taken any advice from him given his age. He added that at George’s age, you don’t worry about the same things at school that one would as they get older such as meeting new people.

“Poor old thing,” he added. “He’s been left there to have to get on with it when the parents go away.” Though he believes that it’s good for George at the end given that the experience will be a character-building one.

The school was chosen by William and Kate because they want to give George as normal a life as possible. In school, he will be known as George Cambridge. In a statement, Headmaster Ben Thomas said he was honoured that Thomas’s Battersea reflects the kind of education sought after by Royal Highnesses.

Though George may have seemed a little nervous walking in, William spoke to the press after picking him up in the afternoon. “It went well,” he said. “There was one other parent who had more of an issue so I was quite pleased I wasn’t the one.”

Kate missed the first day due to her hyperemesis gravidarum, which she is still undergoing treatment for in Kensington Palace.
