High School coach Danielle Wehmeyer describes the death of one of her athletes with one word, “unimaginable.” Tristan Dilly, 14 years old, was shot twice in the head in her second-floor bedroom in her mother’s home in Buna, Texas. Dilly attended Silsbee High School in Texas.

The police suspect that her murder was committed by 19-year-old Paul Audrey Adams, a man who had been homeschooled and was now attending the Lamar State College for Nursing. Adams committed suicide shortly after Tristan Dilly’s murder.

Coach Wehmeyer told reporters that “Tristan was the type of person that when she’s gone, you can feel the void” and that “her teammates meant the world to her.” Dilly was found dead in her bedroom by her younger 13-year-old brother. The investigation team discovered that at the time of her death, she had been dating a young boy named “Adam” but Dilly’s friends and family didn’t know much about him other than his name that he was 16, who later turned out to be 19-year-old, Paul Audrey Adams.

Police sent out a search for Adams, but when they arrived at his home, his mother told police he had gone. Later, police managed to get a hold of Paul Adams, who told police that he had been over at Tristan Dilly’s house the night before, but he had heard an intruder go up the stairs, and described the intruder as an older white male with a beard. Adams told police that he heard two gunshots, and he didn’t know what else to do so he ran. The ranger who spoke to Adams over the phone then heard a distinct gunshot and believed Adams to be dead.

Detectives working on the case of Tristan Dilly’s murder learned that the suspect Paul Audrey Adams had purchased an axe, a machete, some knives, several meal rations, cases of water, burlap, dumbbells, and duct tape several days before Dilly’s murder. You can read into what Adam’s actions might have been next.

Adams committed suicide, and it’s fairly clear that his description of the murder suspect was a false claim, and that Adams was attempting to blame someone else for his crime. The motive, however, remains unclear as to why Adams wanted to kill Tristan Dilly.

Tristan Dilly is mourned by her friends, her family, and her teachers at Silsbee High School.
