Meghan Markle Broke Royal Protocol Again—This Time With Her Hair

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to get married on May 19, 2018, at the St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle in England, which is said to be one of the Queen’s favourite venues. Meghan Markle, who is an American actress, is set to enter the Royal Family. But before she is officially a part of royalty, she has already broken a lot of royal traditions.

According to People, this is not the first time that Meghan has broken royal tradition. Whether it be skipping nylons during her wedding announcement or wearing a sheer dress for her engagement photos, Meghan Markle has never been one to conform.

And now, with her most recent public appearance with Prince Harry, she has once again broken the royal protocol. Meghan’s hair, which isn’t always done up and stylized like other members of the royal family, is a real breath of fresh air. As reported by Harper’s Bazaar, Meghan’s image has been created to be ‘purposefully skewed to appear more casual, more modern and more relaxed.’

Despite both being 36 years old, Meghan and her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, have a drastically different sense of fashion. Throughout Kate’s hundreds of public appearances as a member of the royal family, she has created a steady theme for herself. She almost always wears knee-length dresses, with pantyhose, heels that are no higher than five inches, covered shoulders and ‘demure silhouettes.’

According to Glamour.com, members of the royal family should never wear red nail polish and should not cross their legs. And even hairstyles have to be very strict and formal. Kate Middleton, who is married to Prince William, always errs on the safer side. Her hairstyles generally portray an air of being ‘perfectly put-together.’

When her hair is up, it’s tucked neatly and discreetly away in a hairnet so that her hair doesn’t move and when Kate’s hair is down, it is almost always in the form of loose curls.

That’s why when Meghan Markle showed off her messy bun to the world with Prince Harry many thought it to be once again a breach of royal tradition. Zarife Hardy, who is the director of the Australian School of Etiquette, said: ‘Meghan is definitely good news for the British royal family—she is interesting, effervescent and glowing with happiness, and people are always attracted to those qualities.’
