According to the Internet, John Legend and Chrissy Teigen basically created what is known as #CoupleGoals, but the couple hasn’t been without their problems. Teigen has been pretty forthcoming with her fertility issues and the strain it had on her psyche, as well as her marriage but she and John, have always powered through.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Legend admitted that there was a time when he tried to break up with Teigen but she wasn’t having it and denied the request. “I was really stressed and busy,” Legend recalls. “I was just like: ‘I’d just be happier single right now,’ and she was like ‘no.’” And apparently, that was that.
The ‘breakup’ between the now happily married couple only lasted about an hour and a half before they were back together. “She pushes me to be funnier,” Legend explains while talking about his wife. “[It’s] not because she’s trying to, I think it’s just being around her. And [she pushes me] to be bolder.”
Teigen chimed in on the old break-up with a tweet, explaining that it “wasn’t a typical break up” and that Legend was “on tour and his voice hurt and he was being a whiny face about everything so yeah, I was like ‘no.’”
If anything, this story just proves how close Legend and Teigen really are and how well they know each other. Teigen obviously wasn’t fazed by Legend’s request to break up and knew it wasn’t coming from a place of genuine dissatisfaction in the relationship.
Teigen also responded to the retelling of the story with a simple crying face emoji and “11 years later, baby,” with a link to the article. For a couple who has been together so long, stories like these from their past are obviously more amusing than anything else.
Together, the couple has shared Grammy wins, magazine covers, and of course the birth of their daughter Luna.
