Keanu Reeves Set To Star In 3rd ‘Bill & Ted’ Movie

Hop in your time machine for another throwback as Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, stars of the late 80’s cult films Bill & Ted, reunite for a third motion picture, air guitars and all. As seen on Box Office Mojo, the first film grossed a box office revenue of over 40 million dollars, which then sparked a sequel and an animated series. Due to the high and unwavering success of the franchise, a modernized addition to the now-classics is sure to impress.

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989), begins when the two main characters, William “Bill” S. Preston (Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Reeves), find themselves unable to brainstorm ideas for their history report. That night, they come across a flying phone booth, which then drops from the sky next to them in the parking lot.

A man introduces himself and takes them on a whirlwind adventure through time, where the boys enter into different eras and encounter many historical figures. Socrates, Beethoven, Billy The Kid and Napoleon are just a few of the people they meet along their journey. The second, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), features a trip to the future and a comical confrontation with the Grim Reaper.

The film ended off with a prophetic cliffhanger. Wyld Stallyns, the band started by the two high-school misfits, were given the mission to create the greatest song of all time that would eventually lead to world peace. The premise of the revival will be derived from the failure of the middle-aged friends, to write the universe-saving hit. The duo will have to go back in time once again, in pursuit of inspiration and knowledge, this time with the company of their teenage daughters, as explained on Good Morning America.

Bill & Ted Face The Music, which is now in pre-production according to IMDB, was first presented to the cast over a decade ago. “[Writers] Chris [Matheson] and Ed [Solomon} came to us in 2007 with the idea of doing it,” Reeves told Entertainment Weekly. “They pitched us an idea. It sounded great.”

“We wanted to get it right,” Ed Solomon, one of the two screenplay writers, added. “We wanted to have it be something that we — all four of us, Chris and I, Alex and Keanu — could stand behind, and know we’re doing this for the right reasons.” The movie is sure to bring about a wave of nostalgia from long-time fans as the focus is primarily on the relationship between the characters. “I think it’s kind of like A Christmas Carol with Bill and Ted,” teased Solomon. “Looking at their lives, and really kind of rediscovering what they’re about.”

Though Reeves and Winter have starred in many roles since they will always remember their debut with fondness and a laugh. “We couldn’t be more excited to get the whole band back together again,” they told The Hollywood Reporter. “Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm, we’ve got a dream team!” As the two Valley boys would say after an awesome success, “Excellent!”
