Seal Calls Out Oprah Winfrey Over Past Relationship With Harvey Weinstein

Oprah Winfrey’s stirring Golden Globes speech was taken by many to mean that she was going to run for president in 2020. However, her words did not sit well with everyone, including musician Seal. Seal criticized Oprah after her Golden Globes speech, calling attention to her relationship with Harvey Weinstein.

Seal posted two photos on Instagram of Winfrey and Weinstein together. The text in the photos read “When you have been part of the problem for decades, but suddenly they all think you are the solution.” The photos showed Oprah kissing Harvey Weinstein on the cheek. They also depicted Winfrey and Weinstein having a conversation with a young woman.’

Seal criticized Oprah in his caption as well. He wrote “Oh I forgot, that’s right…..you’d heard the rumours but you had no idea he was actually serially assaulting young starry-eyed (sic) actresses who in turn had no idea what they were getting into. My bad.” He also added “#sanctimonioushollywood” to the caption.

Even though there seemed to be a number of people excited about the idea of Oprah running for president, others were more cautious. Comedian and Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane tweeted “Oprah is beyond doubt a magnificent orator. But the idea of a reality show star running against a talk show host is troublingly dystopian.  We don’t want to create a world where dedicated public service careers become undesirable and impractical in the face of raw celebrity.”

In addition to Seal, Juanita Broaddrick also spoke up against what she saw as a huge display of hypocrisy. The 75-year-old nurse (who is now retired) alleged that Bill Clinton raped her while running for governor in Arkansas. “Funny I’ve never heard you mention my name,” Broaddrick tweeted, “CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? Guess not. My rapist was/is your friend, Bill Clinton.

After Seal criticized Oprah, the news media quickly reported on what the “Kiss From a Rose” singer had to say about her. However, Seal has now stated that it was never his intention to criticize Oprah directly. On a Facebook, Post Seal stated: “I have an enormous amount of respect for everything that Oprah has achieved and contributed in her life.”

He continued, “What I reposted was not an attack on Oprah at all. She just happened to be the person photographed with the pig in the picture. No, what I reposted was a commentary on the hypocritical and double-standard nature and behaviour of Hollywood.” Seal then stated that he did not want Fox News to “use [him] as a pawn against Oprah and in any of [they’re] political games.”
