With the recent onslaught of allegations fired at Harvey Weinstein, more women and men have come forth with their own accounts of sexual assault and sexual abuse. But things don’t seem to stop there for Harvey. According to the New York Times, Gwyneth Paltrow is one of the actresses who was sexually harassed by the producer when she was 22 years old.
Gwyneth, who was dating Brad Pitt at the time, told her boyfriend that the movie mogul had sexually assaulted her.
That’s when Brad decided to take the situation into his own hands.
It is alleged that Harvey Weinstein made unwanted advances toward Gwyneth Paltrow in a hotel room. This happened right before she was about to star in the Miramax-produced film Emma.
She alleged that Harvey placed his hands on her and asked for a massage. When Gwyneth told this to Brad, Brad decided to confront Harvey in person.
But what is important to note is that at the time Brad Pitt was not a major star. According to a source close to Brad, the source said that Brad took ‘a big risk’ by confronting Weinstein.
It was during a Hollywood party in 1995 when Brad approached Harvey. The source said: ‘Brad threatened Harvey. He got right in his face, poked him in the chest and said, ‘You will not ever do this to Gwyneth ever again.’’
The source went on to say that he would give Harvey a ‘Missouri whooping’ if anything like that ever happened again. Brad grew up in Springfield, Missouri.
The source went on to describe how Harvey at first tried to defend himself and explain the situation but eventually ‘he stopped and listened and got the message.’
The source also said: ‘he’s one of the only men in Hollywood who stood up and said something. That’s a fact.’
Gwyneth said that after the incident, Harvey called her and threatened her. He wanted to make sure that she did not tell anyone about the incident.
She said: ‘I thought he was going to fire me. He screamed at me for a long time. It was brutal.’
Gwyneth later won the Best Actress Oscar in 1999 for her role in Shakespeare in Love which was produced by Weinstein’s company.
And Brad Pitt himself appeared in Inglorious Basterds in 2009 which was also produced by the Weinstein film company. The source said: ‘he did Inglourious Basterds because of his relationship with Quentin Tarantino, and had nothing to do with Harvey.’
The New York Times revealed that Harvey reached private settlements with 8 of the women who accused him and he has since been removed from his own film studio.
