The White House Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony This Year Was A Complete Disaster

The White House Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony

It was on November 30th of this year when the first family officially rang in the holiday season by turning on the Christmas lights for the white house. It was the 95th annual tree lighting at the White House this year and President Donald Trump was present with his wife, Melania, and other family members for the lighting of the National Christmas Tree.

While in the former years this event used to be jam-packed, nowadays it has gotten a lot quieter.

ABC7 News meteorologist, Steve Rudin, who was present at the event, decided to share a picture of the attendance that day.

He tweeted the picture with the caption: ‘the National Tree Lighting Ceremony was beautiful this evening but hard not to notice the empty seats.’

And Twitter, of course, jumped on the bandwagon and began making comparisons to Trump’s inauguration crowd this year which was equally as empty.

However, before the annual lighting event, the White House put out a press release that read ‘At Christmas Tree Lighting, President Trump Revives the Tradition’s Religious Spirit.’

Trump’s hope was to bring back the term ‘Merry Christmas’, which he alleges was replaced with ‘Happy Holidays’ by the Obama administration (an allegation that has been proven false by videos of the Obama family wishing the country a ‘Merry Christmas’ in various occasions).
