Dolly Parton Has Controversial ‘9 To 5’ Reunion At Emmys, Fans On Twitter React

Country music singer Dolly Parton has found herself in hot water with her fans after her appearance at the 2017 Emmys. Her fans were originally excited to have Parton be apart of the festivities, but the moment she got on stage her fans were quick to let her know of their disappointment.

Parton had a 9-to-5 reunion with her former co-stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin while presenting an award. The presentation was well-received by the Emmy audience and most people watching at home but some of Parton’s fans weren’t all too happy about the company Parton seems to keep.

Fonda and Tomlin used their platform to speak out about an issue important to them with Fonda saying, “In 1980 we refused to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot boss.” Comedian Lily Tomlin came in at the end saying, “And in 2017 we still refuse to be controlled by a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot boss.”

Tomlin’s final words were clearly meant to show a parallel between 9 to 5 movie bosses played by Dabney Coleman and President Donald Trump. Parton was smack dab in the middle in the middle of her two former co-stars and while she didn’t have anything to add, she also didn’t argue or defend Trump either. Instead, Parton talked about how happy she was to be reunited with her two friends up on stage and she remained mostly positive.

Many say that Parton looked shocked at Fonda and Tomlin’s words, though no one knows whether or not Parton knew they were going to say it or not. Parton’s fans took to social media to state their disappointment in Parton for hanging out with women like Fonda and Tomlin.

Some of the reactions were fairly harsh, a lot of fans called for Parton to walk off stage when her friends began disrespecting the president. Many fans stated that they were done listening to Parton’s music if that’s what she decided she stood for while others cancelled their tickets to Dollyworld.

What was meant to be a fun reunion between 9 to 5 co-stars at the Emmys turned into something of a witch hunt for Parton even though she hadn’t said a word about Trump personally. On the flip side, there were fans who were just happy that Parton didn’t take part in the bashing of the president and have remained faithful to her brand.
