Meghan Gilbert shared an inspiring and powerful message on Instagram after sharing her fitness transformation in a post.
The 21-year-old student shared her difficult journey to losing a third of her body weight after reaching the lowest point in her life. Gilbert had been bullied so badly that she was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. She’d reached 200 pounds and got involved in drugs and partying to forget how unhappy she was with herself and her life.
Gilbert shares it was when she’d overdosed on too many pills and drinks and slept 36 hours straight that she realized it was time to change. “When I woke up from my overdose, I saw my tattoo ‘walk by faith, not by sight’ and that’s when I knew I wasn’t doing life right,” wrote Gilbert.
Gilbert made the simple but life-changing choice to start loving herself which is when she fell in love with working out. “I loved the gym. I loved the hardship,” shared Gilbert in her inspiringly honest post. “When you first start to lift weights and someone pushes you to go harder, most of the time you say no I can’t do that much,” she shares. “You think you can’t do it, but in reality, you can.”
Gilbert wrote in her post that her struggle at the gym reflected her struggle to get her life back. “You gain strength through hardship. You will always have gloomy times in your life, and what matters most is your mindset,” encourages the 21-year-old. “After the pain and trials, you end up stronger.”
“I started at a 5lb dumbbell, and now I’m lifting a 25lb,” says Gilbert, who has also lost 80 pounds since she first started at the gym. More importantly, it was gaining a mindset of strength and endurance that the fitness model is most thankful for.
“Trials are like God’s gym,” says Gilbert. “Building you up to prepare for what is to come next.”
