Stephen Hawking is probably one of the most prominent scientists of our time. His works on string theory and combining quantum mechanics with Einstein’s theory of relativity have led us closer and closer to a true concept of everything.

That’s why when he talks, everyone listens. So his most recent comments about the Earth being under threat should be heeded carefully.

Stephen Hawking has said that the Earth is under threat and that it is time for humans to leave.

During a Starmus Festival in Norway, Stephen Hawking stated: ‘We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds. It is time to explore other solar systems.’

He continued on by saying: ‘Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.’

He says that this imminent threat against Earth is not one of the aliens or a global takeover, rather it is self-inflicted.

‘Our physical resources are being drained at an alarming rate. We have given our planet the disastrous gift of climate change.’ Hawking stated, ‘Rising temperatures, reduction of the polar ice caps, deforestation, and decimation of animal species. We can be an ignorant, unthinking lot.’

Hawking continues on by saying that this isn’t the first time our species has been under threat. ‘Columbus did it in 1492 when he discovered the New World, but now there is no new world. No Utopia around the corner.’

He urges the exploration of other solar systems in order to find planets that are suitable for human life. He has urged for the transformation into a multi-planetary species before.

He’s gone on the record to say: ‘We are running out of space and the only places to go to are other worlds. It is time to explore other solar systems.’

He urgently added, ‘Spreading out may be the only thing that saves us from ourselves. I am convinced that humans need to leave Earth.’
