‘John Wick’ Is Coming To TV, And Yes, Keanu Reeves Will Be There

There aren’t many action fans out there who didn’t enjoy Keanu Reeves’ movie, John Wick. I mean, what’s cooler than an assassin coming out of retirement and killing a bunch of people for murdering his dog?

They enjoyed it so much, in fact, that even the sequel to the first film wasn’t enough to keep them satisfied. TV network Starz has announced that the rumours are true:John Wick TV show called The Continental is in the works. The show will focus on The Continental (hence the name), the hotel from the film which was occupied by hitmen and murderers and served as neutral territory for hired assassins.

Keanu Reeves will be an executive producer on the show, re-teaming with John Wick co-director Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, as well as screenwriter Derek Kolstad. Chris Collins, known for his work on Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, and The Man in the High Castle will be the show’s starting showrunner. The film’s director, Chad Stahelski, said plans for a TV series were discussed with screenwriting partner Derek Kolstad even before the success of the second film.

But the big question on everyone’s mind is: will the original John Wick, aka Keanu Reeves, appear on the show?

Starz’s president of programming Carmi Zlotnik said John Wick star Keanu Reeves is expected to appear in the series. “Keanu is an executive producer, and I think you can expect to see him at some point in the series,” Zlotnik said at a Starz TCA panel, according to IndieWire. “That is part of the ongoing conversation.”

However, while The Continental is from the John Wick films, the show itself won’t be about John Wick. According to Deadline, the show’s producers say the TV series will be set in “a hyper-real version of Los Angeles,” but will have “the dry humour from the John Wick movies.”

There’s no official premiere date yet, but Starz President & CEO Chris Albrecht promises: “This series is truly unlike anything else on TV.” Until then, John Wick fans have the third installment of the franchise to look forward to in 2019.
