Kelly Clarkson Gave Her Daughter Nutella And Then She Was Accused Of Child Abuse

Kelly Clarkson let her daughter River try Nutella for the first time and Instagram users were not happy about it. Some went so far as to call it ‘child abuse’.

Mommy-shaming is nothing new for celebrity mothers; but Clarkson, who seems to have avoided it thus far, got a taste of the hefty criticism after sharing a video online of her toddler eating the sweetened hazelnut spread.

The singer posted the cute video on Instagram, where her 2-year-old took a bite out of her toast smeared with Nutella. Clarkson asks her daughter in the video, ‘River do you like Nutella?’ River responds with a sweet ‘yeah’ while enjoying her first bite, followed by a little happy dance. ‘River’s first Nutella experience,’ Clarkson captioned the post. ‘It should have been via crepe but the toast was easier #nutellagoodness #australiagoodness.’

River Rose is Clarkson’s first child. The ‘Since U Been Gone’ singer and her husband Brandon Blackstock also share a newborn son named Remington. The video has been viewed more than 3 million times with many expressing how adorable River is in the comments, but those not in favor of the singer giving her toddler Nutella left a slew of cutting remarks.

The criticism ranged from simple quips like “Nutella is hella bad for you,’ to ‘Nutella is PACKED with sugars. Don’t make your kids blow up.’ Some seemed like they were genuinely trying to let the 34-year-old know that Nutella isn’t considered a healthy treat, while others got unnecessarily cruel.

‘Giving food like this to a child is child abuse,’ one user wrote. One user referred to a controversial study done last year that said the palm oil in Nutella could be carcinogenic at some levels of exposure, writing that Nutella has been ‘confirmed to give cancer’.

Kelly Clarkson is yet to comment on the backlash. Watch the video below to see River’s reaction to the treat!
