According to Wikipedia, it’s when the digits become fused together and form a webbed appearance between the toes or fingers. This rare occurrence happens to 1 in every 2,000-3,000 babies. Geneticists haven’t really figured out why it occurs or how to predict when it will occur. It’s possible for two parents without Syndactyly to produce a child with it. Syndactyly can be dormant in the genes and passed down to later generations. Syndactyly doesn’t have to be inherited though, and can simply be a mutation of the individual.
