Couple Forced To Kiss Goodbye After Getting Sent To Separate Care Homes

Herbert and Audrey Goodine are the epitome of true love and the definition of what a marriage should be. The happy couple has been together for a whopping 73 years and has spent their last three years together in a nursing home.

However, Herbert is suffering from dementia and after a health assessment, he was forced to move away from his wife and into a new home.

The couple was forced to give each other a kiss goodbye after Herbert was transferred to a home more than 45 minutes away.

Their daughter, Diane Phillips, filmed a short clip where the couple had to give each other a kiss goodbye.

In the video, Audrey could be heard telling her lifelong love that she is going to be ‘jealous’ of all the other women that are at his new home because they get to spend time with him.

Diane then said that her mother stood and watched at the window of their New Brunswick, Canada home as the van took Herbert away to his new home.

Although Diane says that she understands why Herbert had to be moved, she just hopes that it could have been done after Christmas instead of a week before Christmas.

Speaking to a spokesperson from the Victoria Villa care home, they said that they could not comment on specific cases. However, they did say that the Victoria Villa home is intended for residents who need ‘a little bit’ of supervision whereas Herbert’s new home could offer a lot more.

Diane then went on Facebook to post the heartbreaking moment: ‘when talking to my parents yesterday I listened to my mother weep and I could hear my father in the background.’

‘My mother said “Christmas is over for us now and this is the worst Christmas that we will ever have. Why could they not have waited till after the holidays.” I assured her that I tried everything to keep them together a few more days. ‘My parents have been together for a total of 73 years and still sleep in the same bed. I feel people need to know what a flawed system we have in place. Two words describe it “unethical and cruel”.’

Diane’s Facebook post has since been shared nearly 18,000 times. During an interview with Global News, Herbert spoke about how he met his wife: ‘you’d laugh if you knew how I met her. I still laugh about it myself. I was out of my house — of my flat — and I looked through the crack in the wall and I saw her. And I never forget it.’
