In a year that’s seen us lose a multitude of entertainers, comes a loss in the adult film world. In an unexpected occurrence, Hollywood Life has learned that adult film star August Ames dies aged 23. A close friend has said that Ames had taken her own life after succumbing to her battle with depression.
The Canadian-born actress was found dead on Tuesday in Camarillo, California. Adult film director and husband Kevin Moore confirmed the news in a statement, saying “She was the kindest person I ever knew and she meant the world to me”. He has understandably asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Just this past weekend, after refusing to work with a man who had previously shot gay porn, Ames had received backlash from the Twitterverse, with people raining down on the adult film star. On her own verified account, she had spoken out on this matter, stating “I don’t have anything to apologize for! Apologizing for taking extra steps to ensure that my body stays safe?” She then went on to proclaim her love for the gay community, and that she can choose who she is involved with.
Though she faced scrutiny for this, she strenuously tried to clean up the mess, denying any homophobia and making it clear that she was only looking after her personal health. In a time where people receive almost instantaneous judgment and strike via social media, especially when you’re a public figure, it can be damaging when you’re already facing your own battle.
Born Mercedes Grabowski, the renowned adult film star had over 270 film credits to her name since making her debut on the screen in 2013. To no surprise, several figures in the adult entertainment industry were saddened and shocked by the tragic and sudden news.
Among them, performer Abella Danger tweeted “She was the most kind-hearted person ever”, along with director Jules Jordan, who said, “Rest In Peace to August Ames, one of the best, nicest people I ever knew in the business.”
Widely respected for her work, she was a friend and a genuine human being above all else. It’s a tough reality that mental health claims the lives of far too many who need the help and attention that they genuinely deserve. Ames will be missed by all who had the pleasure to work with and know the young star.
