Winning the lottery just so happens to be a lot of people’s dream. You think that you’ll buy a $4 ticket and win millions or billions of dollars and every problem you have in life will be solved. Well, this is true for some people who actually wind up winning, but for most of us, we just continue imagining what it would be like. Nevertheless, going from an ordinary person to a multi-millionaire in a matter of seconds would be amazing.
For 53-year-old Mavis Wanczyk, it’s been exactly that. Wanczyk started out as a medical care center worker, but since becoming the winner of the biggest single ticket for the Powerball, her life has completely changed. Once tax deductions were applied to her winnings, Mavis will walk away with $336, 350, and 655. This makes her richer than megastars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kanye West.
Nevertheless, Wancyzk admitted that she would have been ‘very happy with just $1 million. Like most of us, Wancyzk never thought that this would happen to her. Speaking at a press conference she said: “I thought ‘it’s never going to me, it’s just a pipe dream I’ve always had.’” Wanczyk is now settled for the rest of her days and could no longer have to work if she chose not to. “I want to just be me, be alone and be me and just figure out what I want to do.”
“The first thing I want to do is sit back and relax. I wanted to retire in 12 [years] and it came early. I’ve called [my workplace] and told them I will not be coming back.” Just one year prior, Wancyzk lost her husband William in a hit-and-run crash, hence her need to just sit back and relax. We hope Wancyzk enjoys the rest of her days and gets that much-needed relaxation!
