A state legislator for Ohio, Goodman was forced to resign after a witness reported the extramarital affair to the Ohio House Chief of Staff. Now the Independent Journal Review has obtained testimonies from over 30 individuals with sexual misconduct allegations against Goodman. According to the accounts, Goodman contacted men using Facebook Messenger. Goodman targeted young college students and would pose as a friend and mentor. The conversations would start by discussing politics or potential careers and lead to sexually explicit messages and Goodman attempting to coerce them into relationships. The men were usually between the ages of 18 and 24 and in the Republican movement.

One man, journalist Caleb Hull, came forward with screenshots of the messages. “Wes Goodman, who was just caught having sex with a man in his office, begged me to have sex with him and/or his wife on several occasions while I went to school in Ohio,” Hull wrote on Twitter, with attached screenshots of messages from Goodman.

According to the Washington Post, the politician was also accused of groping an 18-year-old student in 2015 after a fundraiser. According to emails obtained by The Washington Post, the boy and his parents even told the organization hosting the conference. Goodman didn’t drop out of his campaign and won.

Amid the scandal, Goodman announced he would be stepping down and asked the public for privacy. “I sincerely regret that my actions and choices have kept me from serving my constituents and our state in a way that reflects the best ideals of public service,” said Goodman.

“For those whom I have let down, I’m sorry,” Goodman said in his statement. “As I move onto the next chapter of my life, I sincerely ask for privacy for myself, my family, and my friends.”
