3. Bombasting: In Elizabethan Britain, both men and women would stuff their clothes to create huge “leg of mutton” sleeves, massive thighs, and (for men only) large bellies. But, unlike the padded bras of today, the bombast wasn’t made of polyester, it was made from rags, cotton, horsehair, or bran. Yum!
