Free concert, anyone? There’s nothing better than being on your daily commute and walking by a very talented street musician, especially if that street musician is a celebrated music legend.

Pedestrians received the surprise of a lifetime when none other than Rod Stewart surprised everyone with an impromptu performance in London. The British rock singer and songwriter shocked casual passersby in London’s Piccadilly Circus in June 2017 when he stopped to join a street musician who was playing his 1969 “Handbags and Gladrags” hit. As a busker, what could be more rewarding than having a musician join you to play their famous song?

When Stewart first took the mic, it didn’t appear that anyone knew it was really him: even with his signature hair, the sunglasses he was wearing kept the crowd in doubt. However, once the British rock star started singing in his raspy voice, people began to piece together that it could actually be the famous singer.

After a couple of lines of “Once I was a young man / All I thought I had to do was smile / While you are still a young girl / And you bought everything in style” suspicions were confirmed and a crowd began to gather. The crowd, who surrounded the singer, was witnessing a performance that would normally cost them hundreds of dollars; instead, they were treated to a much more personal live concert for no cost at all.

The singer even quickly took off his sunglasses to flash his recognizable face to the crowd, confirming that it was indeed Rod Stewart in the flesh. The British singer showed everyone he’s still got it as he belted out a chorus of his famous song, sounding exactly like the original track.

As the crowd cheered Stewart on, he made sure not to steal all the thunder from the actual street musician, even giving him an encouraging pat while walking away.

We’re pretty sure the street musician wasn’t upset about it.
