Most of us are just happy to have our pizza arrive on time, but there has been a growing trend of customers taking advantage of the special request box when ordering online. Whether it’s a request for a joke or a drawing, most pizza places are more than happy to oblige. However, one Pizza Hut employee’s joke ended up being deemed too risqué by the customer and resulted in their untimely termination.

A Virginia customer, whose name was not disclosed, said that her two sons, ages 12 and 15, made the request for a joke to be included on the pizza box when they made an order online. The Jefferson Highway Pizza Hut employee followed instructions but ended up delivering a bawdy punchline that did not have this mother-of-two laughing.
“What do a pizza delivery driver and a gynecologist have in common?” the inside of the pizza box read. The answer? “They both have to smell it, but neither of them gets to eat it.” The joke may have been a hit with the right crowd, but this mother found it wildly inappropriate and took to social media to express her disaccord.
The employee called the customer to apologize for the incident, but that didn’t stop Pizza Hut from letting her go. The mother admitted that she never intended for the employee to get fired, however, her social media post ended up resulting in more backlash than support.
The mother-of-two may have gotten some support from other parents who found the joke too crude, but a lot of people disagree with Pizza Hut’s decision to fire the employee, particularly due to the fact that it was only a few days before Christmas.
Since the story has gained traction online, the mother says she’s received bullying and angry messages from people. The Pizza Hut location’s official Facebook page has also taken a hit, the star rating plummeting to a 1.6 and the review section is littered with criticism over the management’s decision to terminate the employee.
Still, the mother stands by her decision to complain over the pizza box quip, stating, “It’s an inappropriate joke. There’s a time and place for everything. My pizza box is not one of them. It’s a lesson learned.” The Internet, however, seems to disagree, and the hashtag #JusticeForPizzaGirl has begun flooding the company’s Facebook page.
