Uma Thurman Gives Emotional Response About Harassment In Hollywood

On October 18, Access Hollywood spoke with Uma Thurman about how she feels regarding women speaking up about sexual assault and sexual harassment in Hollywood.

“I think it’s commendable,” she said. “And I don’t have a tiny soundbite for you because I’ve learned I am not a child. And I have learned that when I have spoken in anger, I usually regret the way I express myself. So, I’ve been waiting to feel less angry and when I’m ready I’ll say what I have to say.” The reporter then thanked her and Thurman nodded before the clip ended.

Throughout her response, she took several pauses in between her words to choose what she would tell the reporter. But it was obvious that she was angry. Thurman’s emotional response is something that most women can relate to—be it from experiencing society’s cold shoulder on sexual assaul

t or having their experiences belittled by those who can’t understand their situations or the struggles women face on a daily basis.

When Thurman’s response was posted on social media, many people on Twitter understood where she was coming from, especially women who have experienced the same circumstances. One woman wrote, “I know how she feels,” while another wrote, “So many women can relate to this rage because we’ve been hurt, abused and humiliated by men in power, not just in Hollywood, this is society.”

Another Twitter comment stated: “Uma Thurman expresses *precisely* the words and feelings I have exchanged with several women friends these past weeks.”

And, of course, people on Twitter were using several Kill Bill GIFs to not only better convey their comments but also to add to what Thurman was saying. Some of the GIFs used were of Thurman’s character, Black Mamba, overlooking a room of dead men while another was of her in a car with the caption: “When I woke up, I went on what movie advertisements refer to as “a roaring rampage of revenge.””

A comment that perhaps summed up Thurman’s response best read: “Uma Thurman powerful response: she tells nothing, and yet, she says EVERYTHING.”
